After intensive trials, the Gen.Urban can now drive autonomously in real urban traffic. The research projects aims to explore how passengers experience riding in a self-driving vehicle without a traditional steering wheel or pedals – and what requirements this creates for future vehicle concepts.

Volkswagen AG today announced the foundation of Volkswagen Autonomy GmbH (VWAT GmbH) with headquarters in Munich and Wolfsburg. Another subsidary in Silicon Valley will follow in 2020. A further subsidiary is planned in China in 2021. As a centre of excellence for autonomous driving from Level 4, VWAT will serve to build up know-how within the Group and bring a self-driving system (SDS) to market maturity. MOIA
Since 2016, MOIA has developed a digital ecosystem for the entire value chain of ridepooling – from apps to algorithms to fleet management. MOIA has been offering its service in Hamburg since 2019. Since 2021, MOIA has been working with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles on a pilot project for autonomous ridepooling. Cities all over the world aim to make their transport more efficient and climate-friendly in the future. Autonomous ridepooling can be an important lever in achieving this goal. As a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) provider, MOIA has the necessary expertise to develop an autonomous ridepooling system from an autonomous vehicle and a self-driving system. The goal is to develop an integrated autonomous ridepooling system in Hamburg for international scaling by 2025 and to open it up to customers after 2025.
