Volkswagen Group, PowerCo and Gotion deepen strategic partnership
Volkswagen Group, PowerCo SE and Gotion High-tech have agreed to deepen their strategic partnership and jointly accelerate the development of a regional battery supply chain for Europe. Building on their cooperation since 2020, the partners agreed on establishing three joint ventures at the Valencia (Spain), Šurany (Slovak Republic) and Kenitra (Morocco) sites for the industrial production of LFP battery cells and cathode material. The agreement also covers joint procurement and sales activities in Europe. Separately, Volkswagen Group has announced that it has entered into definitive agreements to sell 5.3 % equity stake in Gotion to optimize equity structures and support long-term strategic synergies. Upon completion of the transaction, Volkswagen will continue to hold a significant stake in Gotion.

Start of European battery cell production: PowerCo commissions Salzgitter gigafactory
PowerCo SE today commissioned the Salzgitter gigafactory as planned and produced the first Unified Cells "made in Europe". The commencement of production marks a milestone for the Volkswagen Group and the European battery industry: PowerCo is designing, developing and producing battery cells entirely in Europe for the first time, thus strengthening the company's technological sovereignty. The cells will now be delivered to the Volkswagen Group brands for final road tests. Their debut is planned for next year in the Electric Urban Car Family of Volkswagen, ŠKODA and SEAT/CUPRA.

Ninth Porsche Charging Lounge, located in Lower Saxony, is now open
Lüneburg Heath is known for its extensive heathlands, green forests and quiet moors. Now there is an additional attraction for Taycan and Macan drivers after the ninth Porsche Charging Lounge opened, in Evendorf/Nordheide. Like all of the brand-exclusive fast-charging stations it offers a very high charging performance of up to 400 kW, a relaxed ambience and the central processing of charging costs via the Porsche Charging Service.

EV batteries drive the energy transition: Roland Berger study shows high potential of decentralized energy in Germany
Elli – a brand of the Volkswagen Group – together with an alliance of leading energy companies presents a new study about decentralized energy solutions. Technologies like electric vehicles, solar power systems, home storage systems, and heat pumps can save the German energy system up to €255 billion by 2045. This corresponds to around €13 billion per year in added value – a key lever for a secure, independent, and cost-efficient energy transition. Roland Berger’s analysis shows that Germany can only achieve both energy supply security and overall cost efficiency through the combination of large-scale centralized power plants and decentralized energy technologies.

Made in Europe: Volkswagen, PowerCo and Elli launch pioneering battery and energy technologies
The Volkswagen Group and its subsidiaries PowerCo and Elli are pushing sustainable mobility "made in Europe" at the IAA Mobility 2025. They are showcasing pioneering technologies for the automotive industry: The world's first Group test vehicle with solid-state battery provides a glimpse of the battery technology of tomorrow. PowerCo’s Unified Cell, which will be used for the first time in the Electric Urban Car Family of Volkswagen, ŠKODA and CUPRA, is ready for series production. In combination with the new battery system, it will provide a technological leap in terms of performance, cost efficiency and flexibility. The Volkswagen Group is consistently expanding its know-how in e-mobility and now has the broadest range of technologies on the market – from combustion engines to PHEVs and all-electric vehicles to battery and energy technologies.

Power2Drive 2025: Elli unveils new "Flexpole Plus" and announces key partnership with UNITI
Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH (Elli) is presenting a major innovation at this year’s Power2Drive trade fair in Munich: the new Flexpole Plus. The next-generation of Elli’s battery-buffered DC fast charger combines proven flexibility with expanded payment capabilities, making it ideal for public, business, and fleet locations with limited grid capacity. Coinciding with the product launch, Elli is also announcing a strategic partnership with German energy association UNITI to help transform gas station infrastructure across the country.

Volkswagen merges charging and fueling services under new company
The Volkswagen Group is strengthening its charging and fueling services through the merger of LOGPAY Transport Services GmbH, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Financial Services AG, and the mobility service units of Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH (Elli). This strategic merger lays the foundation for future growth by offering seamless mobility services and an expanded range of solutions to both business and private customers transitioning to e-mobility. The newly established Elli Mobility GmbH, as a result of this merger, will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH (Elli) starting (expected) in March 2025.

Volkswagen and PowerCo Make Strategic Investment in North American Lithium Company Patriot Battery Metals
PowerCo SE, Volkswagen Group’s battery company, and Patriot Battery Metals Inc. (TSX: PMET | ASX: PMT | OTCQX: PMETF | FSE: R9GA) today announced they have entered into a strategic partnership. This is the first investment for PowerCo and Volkswagen in the lithium supply chain, underlining PowerCo’s ambition to execute on its vertical integration strategy – from mine to battery. The partnership ensures the long-term supply of lithium raw materials through a binding offtake commitment. Additionally, the companies will jointly explore further strategic opportunities such as a downstream lithium supply chain with a focus on cost competitiveness, high ESG standards and long-term security.

Green energy for Gigafactory Salzgitter
PowerCo SE relies on climate-friendly electricity for the operation of its cell factories. For the Salzgitter gigafactory, it has now concluded the first long-term purchase agreements with the green energy producers Alterric and EnviTec Biogas AG. From 2025, they will supply around 240 gigawatt hours per year from wind power (Alterric) and around 65 gigawatt hours from solar energy (EnviTec Biogas AG). Over the entire term of ten years, this will result in a total of 3 terawatt hours of green electricity, which will be used to operate the Salzgitter gigafactory.
