ID. AURA, ID. ERA and ID. EVO: Volkswagen unveils three concept vehicles in Shanghai
Volkswagen is now telling the rest of the ID. CODE story. The concept car presented in Beijing in 2024 charted the course in terms of design, innovations and customer benefit. Building on this, the brand is now unveiling three new concept cars at Auto Shanghai together with its Chinese joint venture partners. The ID. AURA (from FAW-Volkswagen), the ID. ERA (from SAIC VOLKSWAGEN) and the ID. EVO (from Volkswagen Anhui) are representative of a new generation of smart electric vehicles and give a preview of the product strategy for the coming years. Volkswagen plans to bring out over 30 new models (including 20 NEVs) in the relevant segments of the Chinese market through the end of 2027. These will include production versions of the concept cars now being presented in Shanghai, whose design and technologies have been specifically tailored to the needs of Chinese customers.

The Volkswagen Group is continuing to consistently pursue its ‘In China, for China’ strategy and is shifting into ‘delivery mode’ at Auto Shanghai 2025: on the eve of the world's leading trade fair for the automotive industry, the Group is presenting ten new models from its strong brands, including five world premieres. With the ID. ERA, ID. EVO and ID. AURA, three concept vehicles from the Volkswagen brand are making their debut. They represent a new generation of intelligent, fully connected electric vehicles (ICVs) that are tailored to the wishes of Chinese customers. The two further world premieres also offer cutting-edge technologies and highly automated driving assistance functions: Audi's new all-electric model based on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, the Audi A6L e-tron, and the first series model of the new AUDI brand, the AUDI E5 Sportback.

Volkswagen Group in China presents new AI-powered ADAS system for the next generation of intelligent electric vehicles
The Volkswagen Group is systematically expanding its local technology competence in China as part of its ongoing commitment to the “In China, for China” strategy. At Auto Shanghai, Volkswagen will debut its first proprietary AI-powered, highly automated driving system. Specially developed for China's complex traffic environments, the system is self-learning and engineered for both seamless and extremely safe driving experiences. Through an efficient System-on-Chip (SoC) with high computing power, it enables smooth, rapid responses to a wide range of driving scenarios. The group will present a Volkswagen-brand model with this technology in China before the end of this year. Starting next year, it will also be integrated into models based on the China-specific Compact Main Platform (CMP), marking it accessible to price-sensitive compact segment customers.

China strategy is taking shape: Volkswagen presents three concept cars at Auto Shanghai
The “In China, for China” strategy of the Volkswagen brand is taking on visible form: At this year’s Auto Shanghai (April 23 to May 2), one of the world’s most important motor shows, VW’s three Chinese joint ventures will present electric concept cars. The spotlight is on an electric notchback model from FAW-Volkswagen, an electric SUV in the B segment with extended range due to range-extender technology (EREV) from SAIC VOLKSWAGEN as well as an all-electric SUV from Volkswagen Anhui. All three concept cars embody Volkswagen’s new China DNA – both in terms of technology and design and in relation to development time, which has been cut by more than 30 percent.

TRATON with stable sales in 2024 at 334,200 vehicles, despite a difficult market environment
The TRATON GROUP kept unit sales at a stable level in 2024, despite a difficult market environment. According to preliminary data, the four brands Scania, MAN Truck & Bus, International (formerly Navistar), and Volkswagen Truck & Bus sold a total of 334,200 vehicles, a slight year-on-year decline of 1% (338,200).

1.7 million deliveries in 2024: Audi forges ahead with its model initiative
Audi delivered around 1.7 million vehicles worldwide in 2024. More than 164,000 of those were fully electric models. Reasons for this overall decline of almost 12 percent (8 percent for fully electric models) compared to the previous year included the challenging economic conditions, an intensely competitive market, and limited availability of parts. In addition, the new product portfolio is only gradually having an impact on global sales volumes.

Porsche delivers 310,718 vehicles in 2024
In 2024, Porsche AG comprehensively renewed its product range, with a generation change for four out of the six model lines: the Panamera, Taycan, 911 and Macan. Porsche has grown in four out of five world regions and achieved historic records. The share of electrified sports cars increased from 22 to 27 per cent. Almost half of them were purely electric vehicles.

Volkswagen delivers around 4.8 million vehicles worldwide in 2024
Despite strong headwinds, Volkswagen delivered around 4.8 million vehicles to customers worldwide last year (1.4 per cent fewer than in the previous year). Volkswagen was again the clear market leader in Germany with a market share of 19.1 per cent, according to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).

Volkswagen and PowerCo Make Strategic Investment in North American Lithium Company Patriot Battery Metals
PowerCo SE, Volkswagen Group’s battery company, and Patriot Battery Metals Inc. (TSX: PMET | ASX: PMT | OTCQX: PMETF | FSE: R9GA) today announced they have entered into a strategic partnership. This is the first investment for PowerCo and Volkswagen in the lithium supply chain, underlining PowerCo’s ambition to execute on its vertical integration strategy – from mine to battery. The partnership ensures the long-term supply of lithium raw materials through a binding offtake commitment. Additionally, the companies will jointly explore further strategic opportunities such as a downstream lithium supply chain with a focus on cost competitiveness, high ESG standards and long-term security.

All set for future mobility: Volkswagen Group and SAIC Strengthen Long-Standing Partnership with New Joint Venture Agreement
The Volkswagen Group is consistently advancing its “In China, for China” strategy. The company is strengthening its successful 40-year partnership with SAIC Motor for the long term. In Shanghai, both companies signed an extension of their joint venture agreement until the year 2040. By extending the agreement, the partners are creating early planning security beyond 2030 in a very dynamic development phase of the Chinese automotive market. At the same time, Volkswagen and SAIC are accelerating the transformation of their joint venture company, SAIC VOLKSWAGEN, in the areas of product portfolio, production, and decarbonization. The shared goal of the partners is to achieve a leading market position for SAIC VOLKSWAGEN with the Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Audi brands in the era of intelligent, fully connected electric vehicles.

Management change at Volkswagen Group of America
The Volkswagen Group appoints Kjell Gruner as CEO of Volkswagen Group of America effective December 12. Gruner succeeds Pablo Di Si, who has stepped down from his position last week on his own request. Until Kjell Gruner takes office, Gerrit Spengler, CHRO of Volkswagen Group of America, will perform the function of interim CEO.

Vorsprung durch Technik recharged: Audi and SAIC further strengthen partnership
Audi is further intensifying the collaboration with SAIC and SAIC Volkswagen in a Cooperation Agreement. Audi and SAIC have decided to jointly develop new models built on a China-specific platform named “Advanced Digitized Platform” for the next generations of premium intelligent, connected vehicles (ICV). Cooperation starts with three BEV models covering B and C segments to quickly enter into the dynamic and fast-growing electric vehicle market in China.

Beijing Auto Show 2024
The Beijing Auto Show took place from April 25 to May 5. At its Media Night on April 24, the Volkswagen Group presented product highlights and progress in its "in China for China" strategy.
