As a partner for MoMA and MoMA PS1 since 2011, the Volkswagen Group of America supports the sixth series of VW Sunday Sessions, a pioneering art program which was been developed and introduced with the support of the Group. The Volkswagen Group of America also supported the installation of the VW Performance Dome in the courtyard of MoMA PS1 in Queens, New York, a dedicated space for the presentation of live performance programs.
Continuing in early 2018, VW Sunday Sessions will further elevate the presentation of various forms of contemporary creative works and create opportunities for discourse between artists and the public. Through this new series, visitors will experience dance performances, concerts with emerging talent, and this year's VW Sunday Sessions Commission, a science-fiction opera by Colin Self. Interactive and discursive formats will also allow for debates about social issues and artistic practices.
Over 65,000 people have attended VW Sunday Sessions since the program began in 2012. Throughout the years, the series has become a vital element of the program at MoMA PS1 and an internationally recognized platform for cutting-edge expression across artistic genres. MoMA PS1 is devoted to today's most experimental, thought-provoking contemporary art. In 2000, MoMA PS1 merged with The Museum of Modern Art, creating the largest platform for contemporary art in the United States and one of the largest in the world.
Volkswagen Group of America supports MoMA PS1 and the VW Sunday Sessions in the frame of the Volkswagen Group's global cultural engagement. Underlining the Group's corporate responsibility, it is the link for a wide range of cultural activities and collaborations which encourage people to explore the power of creativity.
