Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, Head of the Brand Group Core and member of the Group Board of Management: “The Tiguan is our best-selling model worldwide, and the ID.4 and ID.5 are among our most successful electric cars. The ID. Tiguan brings these two success stories together. A pure, confident design with the presence of a vehicle from the next class up, intuitive operation and, thanks to MEB+, a range of up to 600 kilometres: a new benchmark for our electric SUVs made in Germany. Together with the Tiguan from Wolfsburg, the ID. Tiguan from Emden is part of one of the strongest SUV duos in Europe.”
Range of up to 600 km and a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg.
Volkswagen will offer the ID. Tiguan in three performance levels:
- a rear-wheel drive version with 140 kW (190 PS) and 58 kWh battery
- a rear-wheel drive version with 210 kW (286 PS) and 77 kWh battery
- and a 220 kW (299 PS) 4MOTION all-wheel drive variant, also with a 77 kWh battery.
Depending on the power and battery size, the WLTP ranges will reach up to 600 km. At the same time, the model impresses with its high suitability for everyday use: the towing capacity is up to 1,800 kg with the 58 kWh battery, and up to 2,000 kg with the 77 kWh battery. In addition, there is a frunk with 32 litres of stowage space and a luggage compartment volume of up to 534 litres. Functional, comfortable or sporty: the ID. Tiguan will be available in the four equipment versions Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.
Progress visible everywhere.
Volkswagen has specifically incorporated customer requests into the development of the new ID. Tiguan, implementing countless enhancements and advanced technologies. Taking the cockpit landscape as an example, highlights include a co-driver display (12-inch, 30.5-cm diagonal), the first time a feature like this has appeared in a European Volkswagen. The 10-inch driver display (Digital Cockpit, 25.4-cm diagonal) and the central 15-inch infotainment display (38.1-cm diagonal) are also new. Together with the co-driver display, this results in a continuous display landscape that opens up a new world, especially for the front passenger – one where they can immerse themselves in their own world of infotainment, information, and gaming without distracting the driver. This is because the display is not visible to the driver, as with a laptop privacy screen (privacy mode). In privacy mode, the front passenger can listen to the sound on their paired Bluetooth headphones.
The ID. Tiguan embodies a new design language.
One of Volkswagen’s core values is a superior and timeless design. And this is embodied in every way by the new ID. Tiguan. The Pure Positive design language has a major influence on the exterior design of the ID. Tiguan: the softer crossover design of the predecessors has given way to a powerful SUV design with a strong visual presence. Precise lines and tightly sculpted surfaces lend it additional stability and quality. As a result, the new model looks like a vehicle from the premium segment. In addition, Volkswagen is returning to classic pull-style door handles with the ID. Tiguan.
On a premium level.
The interior also boasts a clear, high-quality design, intuitive controls, a premium feel and an atmosphere that is welcoming in every respect. This feeling is reinforced by elegant lighting effects. The interplay of design, materials and a stylish colour scheme creates an atmosphere reminiscent of the next segment above.
Intuitive operation.
Volkswagen has implemented a clear operating logic throughout the ID. Tiguan. Important functions can therefore be accessed using physical buttons again and have been incorporated into the interior where you would intuitively expect to find them. The air conditioning system is a prime example of this: the basic functions are now controlled via a button bar in the centre console. The door openers in the interior are another example: they are ergonomically optimised to sit perfectly in the hand. In this area on the driver’s side, the in-door control panel for the four power windows has also been redesigned. A further example is the process for adjusting the audio volume and changing the station/track, which is performed primarily using an intuitively accessible controller in the centre console. Positioned at the front: two inductive charging points compliant with the Qi2 standard; integrated magnetic rings position and secure compatible smartphones precisely on the charging points. Another new feature is the multifunction steering wheel with physical buttons instead of touch controls.
New ‘Retro’ displays.
In spite of all the focus on functionality, there is also an element of fun as demonstrated by the ‘Retro’ displays. These are a brand-new development for the ID. Tiguan. If the driver activates the ‘Retro’ display using the ‘View’ button on the multifunction steering wheel, the iconic blue-red instruments from a Golf IV appear in the Digital Cockpit. In this case, there is a classic speedometer on the left and a stylised rev counter on the right. It does not display engine speeds but the energy flow in the drive as a power display. The corresponding ‘Retro’ view in the central infotainment screen can also be personalised for the first time. Here, the driver can choose from six different Volkswagen models, which are displayed in a virtual garage: Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg and Beetle.
Innovative technologies, optional equipment.
Modern assistance, driving and comfort systems are available for the new ID. Tiguan. These include features such as the standard-equipment one-pedal driving (strong deceleration using the accelerator pedal alone), the new Connected Travel Assist, which, among other things, enables assisted lane changing on motorways and automatically stops the ID. Tiguan at red traffic lights.
In addition, comfort features such as electrically adjustable front seats with massage, memory and ventilation functions as well as a high-end sound system1 from Harman Kardon with an output of 480 watts and a panoramic sunroof1 will be part of the optional equipment range.
Well thought-out down to the last detail.
A practical and flexible feature is the Digital Key. This enables the vehicle to be unlocked, locked and started using a compatible smartphone. The Digital Key can also be transferred to family members, friends or colleagues – using the Volkswagen app, it can be shared easily by means of text message, messenger services or email. Another clever and practical solution is the PowerSocket for Vehicle-to-Load. This adapter is simply plugged into the charging socket of the ID. Tiguan and can be used to power all kinds of electrical devices – from electric grills to e-bikes.
Pre-sales for the ID. Tiguan start in Germany and many other European countries on 13 October at prices from 42,695 euros.
