"I am delighted that the Sustainability Council is welcoming a further top expert to participate in its work", Matthias Müller, Chief Executive Officer of the Volkswagen Group, said. "All the more so because Mr. Long comes from China – the country we call our second home market and where our ties are particularly close." Müller thanked the Council for its work over the past year: "It is good that Volkswagen is opening up and engaging with external perspectives. Particularly where the environment and sustainability are concerned."
The Volkswagen Group Sustainability Council was founded in the fall of 2016 in response to the diesel crisis. It advises the Company on the topics of sustainable mobility, environmental protection, and social responsibility as well as integrity, the future of work, and digitalization. The internationally renowned members of the Council are drawn from the worlds of research, academia, science and politics. They operate independently, are not bound by any directives and have far-reaching rights in respect of information, consultation and acting on their own initiative. For the funding of its own projects the Volkswagen Group is proactively making €20 million available to the Council for the first two years.
