The first Italian workers came to Wolfsburg at the start of the 1960s. They had been recruited by the Volkswagen factory to meet the growing need for labourers to build Volkswagens, which were in high demand around the world. They came to make money. Many returned to their homeland but some stayed permanently. They made their lives here in Wolfsburg, and they helped shape this city.
Around 60 years later, ten Italian immigrants and their descendants offer a glimpse at their biographies, their career paths and family stories by means of eyewitness interviews. Their undertakings and experiences are as impressive as they are authentic, while at the same time acting as a mirror reflecting the history of the time and the Company. In collaboration with CATO Sozietät für Kommunikationsberatung, a multi-layered picture emerges of different realities and challenges in the past and present.
